Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are your charges?

A: The fee for a 4-day Camp Program is S$440 nett. This includes 3 meals, costs for excursions, a Camp Bag, a DVC T-shirt and learning materials. Please note there will be no pro-ration of the camp fee if your child is unable to attend the full 4 days.  A 5% siblings discount applies if you are applying for 2 or more of your children. For a group of 5 or more children, a group discount of 10% applies.

Q: What is so special about DVC?

A: The Programs were conceived by Dr Seet Ai Mee who saw a need for children to learn Science in a holistic manner. Using Hands-on interactive methods and through activities, experiments and projects DVC teaches science principles and methods. DVC is now in its 27th year. We have continuous feedback from parents who have found that their children do learn better through the Discovery method.

Q: Are the Programs updated?

A: Programs are frequently updated and have a true Singapore flavour.

Q: Who is in charge of the Camps?

A: Dr Seet Ai Mee and a management team is overall in charge, directing all Camps. At each Campus, there is a trained Camp Commandant in total charge of the operations of that Campus.

Q: Who are the teachers?

A: Every class is taught by a DVC trained instructor and he/she is assisted by Science-trained Camp Leaders who are University or JC/IP Students.

Q: What is the Class Size?

A: Our class size varies from 12 to 30, the average being 22. The size of the small activity groups ranges from 2 to 6.

Q: Where are the Camps conducted?

A: Our Nov/Dec 2019 camps will be conducted at Raffles Girls’ Primary School (Main Campus) and Geylang Methodist Secondary School (East Campus).

Q: Do the campers stay overnight at the Campus?

A: No, Discovery Camps are day camps. Each camp is from Mon to Thu, starting 9am and ending at 5pm.

Q: What about Special needs for food?

A: DVC engages halal caterers who also offer vegetarian food.

Q: What about campers with allergies: food & asthmatic?

A: While we would like to be informed of campers’ food allergies, we are unable to cater to their specific dietary needs. We would encourage parents to pack food for their children if they have food allergies. For children with asthmatic problems, we would request parents to let your children bring their inhalation units and medication with them to the Camp and use them when necessary.

Q: Is transport from home to Campus and return provided?

A: We do not offer any transport arrangements.

Q: Can I drop my child off before 9am or pick him/her up after 5pm?

A: Camp days start at 9am and end at 5pm. You can send your child between 8:30am and 8:59am. Please fetch your child at 5pm as we have to clean the place and then clear the campus by 5:30pm. If your child reaches the school before 8:30am, please remind him/her to stay at the assembly area and not to venture out of the school compound.

Q: Do you have Programs throughout the year?

A: At present we do not have.

Q: Do you have Programs for teachers and Secondary School students?

A: We do conduct special creative science and interactive science workshops for Secondary and Primary school teachers and will conduct special school-based science workshops for secondary school students by special arrangement but we do not have regular DVC programs for secondary school children.

Q: What are the meals provided and at what time?

A: Campers are given 3 meals each day: morning tea at about 10:00 a.m., lunch at about 12:00 noon, and afternoon tea at about 3:00 p.m.

Q: Do children go for outings and if so when?

A: Yes, outings for campers are normally on Tuesday mornings.  However, there may be instances where outings may not be conducted in the mornings due to special arrangements with the places of visit.

Q: What are the Haze Management Measures in place?

A: We would like to assure parents that the well being of our staff and campers is our top priority. We would adhere to all MOE Haze Management guidelines. For children with special medical needs, please ensure that they bring their medication, such as inhalers. We would like to advise parents to seek medical attention for their children should they feel unwell due to the haze.

Q: What if I need to cancel my registration?

A: All cancellations before the start of the camp will incur a cancellation fee.

  • Cancellations done five (5) or more working days before the first day of the camp will incur a fee of S$50.
  • Cancellations done less than five (5) working days before the first day of the camp will incur a fee of 50% of the camp fee.

No refund will be given once the camp commences.
